- Dr Newell has
spent the past twenty-five years developing special interests in aspects
of mobility and breeding soundness in companion animals and the canine
athlete.
- He has a special
interest in the racing greyhound, its biomechanics and fine tuning
for successful racing.
- The skills acquired
to assess subclinical mobility conditions in the racing greyhound
are seamlessly extrapolated to the assessment of companion animal
soundness and this has brought him in touch with many therapeutic
modulators for soundness, as applied to companion animals and the
canine athlete.
- Dr Newell is
the first veterinarian in NSW (Australia) registered with the Greyhound
Racing Authority for processing and inseminating Frozen Semen, and
oversees the program in that state.

for twenty four years in Lake Macquarie NSW centered around a general
practice small animal veterinary hospital with a significant greyhound
medicine and artificial breeding component.
- Consultant to
Sports & Entertainment Services (Vietnam) where he oversees the
soundness and breeding protocols for Racing Greyhounds.
- Provides periodic
technical support to other emerging Asian Greyhound facilities
- Is forthright
in the development of animal welfare policies relating to the racing
Greyhound in the aforementioned countries.
- Course Veterinarian
Beaumont Park (Newcastle – Australia) for 20 years. Extensive
racetrack experience. Interest in computers, multimedia and integration
of technology to greyhound industry and teaching.
